For the past couple of seasons women’s jumpsuits have been making an under the radar comeback. This year, we predict that jumpsuits are going to break-out. Jumpsuits are perfect for all occasions. They can be styled for day or night, work or play.
Wear a sparkly, form fitting womens jumpsuits on a girls’ night out. The jumpsuit hides trouble areas while accentuating areas of the body you do like, such as a deep v-neck that emphasizes cleavage. Busy women can stay stylish on the go in simple denim jumpsuits or plain cloth jumpsuits in neutral colors. Dress up or dress down this trendy look with fashionable accessories.
The Lacy History of Lingerie
Lingerie is a term for women’s fashion undergarments and comes from the French word ‘lin’ for linen. While the term in the French language applies to all undergarments for either gender, in English it is applied only to those women’s undergarments designed to be erotic.
The trend of buying racy lingerie is relatively new. Up through the first part of the 20th century women selected underwear for three major purposes: to alter their shape, for reasons of hygiene, or for modesty. Women’s underwear was often very large and bulky. As the 20th century progressed, underwear became smaller and form-fitting. In the 60’s lingerie manufacturers such as Frederick’s of Hollywood begin to glamorize bras and its sexual appeal began to develop. The lingerie industry has expanded in the 21st century with designs that double as outerwear, such as catsuits. The French refer to this as ‘dessous-dessus’, which basically means innerwear as outerwear.
Out on the Prowl with a Catsuit
Back in the late ’90s and into the beginning of the new millennium, it seemed that Britney Spears could do no wrong. Every career step seemed assured – from her scantily clad schoolgirl look in the “Hit Me Baby One More Time” video to her more serious work singing melancholy ballads. As a 12-year-old girl at the time, I was especially struck by Britney’s choice of attire for the “Oops! I Did It Again” video.
That infamous red-stretch catsuit set the tone for the rest of Spears’ career, and it went on to influence women’s fashion circles for some time to come. Most recently, the lycra catsuit has come back into style in a big way. Its ideal for a good old-fashioned ladies night out, and it definitely makes a bold statement. Even if Britney’s career hasn’t aged so well, at least one of her trademark fashion choices panned out for the best.
