Out on the Prowl with a Catsuit
Back in the late ’90s and into the beginning of the new millennium, it seemed that Britney Spears could do no wrong. Every career step seemed assured – from her scantily clad schoolgirl look in the “Hit Me Baby One More Time” video to her more serious work singing melancholy ballads. As a 12-year-old girl at the time, I was especially struck by Britney’s choice of attire for the “Oops! I Did It Again” video.
That infamous red-stretch catsuit set the tone for the rest of Spears’ career, and it went on to influence women’s fashion circles for some time to come. Most recently, the lycra catsuit has come back into style in a big way. Its ideal for a good old-fashioned ladies night out, and it definitely makes a bold statement. Even if Britney’s career hasn’t aged so well, at least one of her trademark fashion choices panned out for the best.
