Bust-Minimizing Style Tips

crop-topsAccording to the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, there were 399, 440 breast augmentation surgeries performed in 2007.  As a matter of comparison, 153,087 breast reduction procedures were performed during the same year.  It is difficult to find larger-size quality, comfortable bras.  Big breasts need extra support in the proper size–the importance of a professional bra fitting has been discussed previously in this blog on several occasions.

Once you have the proper size bra, there are some basic style tips that can help minimize the appearance of a large bust.  Square, V-, and scoop necklines are flattering and provide good coverage for well-endowed women, and accessories like scarves, jewelry, and hats draw attention upward to the face rather than the chest.  Vertical and diagonal stripes can have a streamlining effect if chosen carefully.  Wrap dresses and empire waists tend to flatter the bust, and so can shift dresses, depending on the cut of the garment.  ¾ length sleeves have the most slimming effect, while sleeveless dresses and crop tops draw attention to the chest.  Finally, the larger the purse or tote bag you carry, the smaller your bust will seem.

haltertopsIn California we would get horrific Indian summers. It would be the worst right before school started is when it would hit hard. The worst part is that at our school there was a dress code. We weren’t allowed to wear certain things to school no matter the weather was like.

One year when it was a record breaking heat wave all the students decided to boycott the dress code. The girls especially were the ring leaders. There was no way we where not going to wear halter tops and shorts to school. Since it was all over the news the record breaking heat wave was not going to end the school board amended the dress code.

Removing Candle Wax From Clothing

EM7993_2Maybe it was a romantic evening or possibly a birthday party, either way, there were candles involved and now there is a big blob of melted wax stuck to one of your cute, sexy tops.  Now comes the question…How do I get this off without ruining the top?

To start with, use dull knife to scrape off as much wax as possible. Place the fabric between two blotters such as paper towels or facial tissues and press with warm iron. This should melt the wax and the paper towels will absorb it. Continue this step as long as wax is being removed. If is it colored wax, you can remove color stains with non-flammable dry cleaning solvent. Once you are done, wash with detergent in the hottest water safe for fabric.

As an alternative:

Harden wax by rubbing with ice. Remove surface wax by carefully scraping with the dull edge of a butter knife.

Sandwich the wax stain between folded paper towels and press with a warm (not hot) iron. Replace paper towels frequently to absorb more wax and to prevent transferring the stain.

Place stain face down on clean paper towels. Sponge remaining stain with a pre-wash stain remover or dry-cleaning fluid; blot with paper towels. Let dry, then launder. Note: If any color remains, re-launder with a bleach that is safe for the fabric.

To Lace Or Not To Lace – Corsets vs. Bustiers

8017_810M_Gold_denimDo you know the difference between a corset and a bustier? Many women find these sexy tops confusingly difficult to define. The difficulty mainly seems to occur because these tops are actually very similar and most people use the terms interchangeably.

Technically, a bustier is a bra style top that usually goes all the way to the waist but may also be cropped or go all the way to the hips. A bustier may have shoulder straps or it way be strapless. Bustier may or may not have supportive boning and/or detachable garters. The purpose of a bustier is to provide a sexy top with bust support that will also add shape to the waist.

A corset was originally a type of tight fitting, body enhancing undergarment used to create an hourglass shaped figure. Modern corsets are considerably more comfortable but still usually have supportive boning and a laced back. It is designed to make a body look slimmer by pulling in the waist and lifting the breasts. Most corsets have lacing at the back which makes a corset almost infinitely adjustable. Most corsets will also have garters for stockings and many corsets now have detachable garters.
